The conversation

IN THIS
EPISODE.

What does 50 years of rock and roll teach you about writing songs that last? I sat down with Ian Moss, lead guitarist of Cold Chisel, the band Triple M listeners voted the greatest Australian artist of all time.

Ian explains Don Walker's rule that every last syllable has to mean something, how a childhood mate's stroke shaped a song on his album Rivers Run Dry, and why long drives bring the best ideas. We get into growing up in Alice Springs glued to AM radio, why Khe Sanh got banned, the pub circuit bands packed out six nights a week, and the gig that almost broke up the band.

His advice for anyone making art: practise every day, stay open to every genre and keep writing good stories.
